Whether you are Millennial, Gen Z, Gen X or Gen Run-to-snap-photo-when-they-call-
for-under-18s-but-you-are-30+, inflation is no friend. Food prices are rising,
transport cost is literally hitting the skies, and Joy your friend just said how she is
thinking of moving to the trenches because her Landlady just increased rent to over
N1m.
As you sit scrolling your phone in the darkness of your room because ‘no light’ and
it’s too early to put on the gen, you see Lanre and her boos posting nice meals for
the gram, Amina and that guy she met at the owambe last Saturday are already
baecationing in Seychelles and Emeka is saying how his teacher told him he will
never make in front of a new Benz. “Where una de see this money?” is the next
thing that comes to mind, right?
Well, we asked a few ALAT Trybe members, and they let us in on the secret to their
soft living amid inflation.

Budget-living Lanre
I live on a budget. If it is not in my budget, I am not buying. The most I will do is
write it down and include it in my next budget. This helps me to free up money for
the things I enjoy so it looks like I am on buga levels all the time.
Little Miss Deals and Discounts Chika
Yes, I stalk the internet for flash sales and special deals, and if I hear anything like
discount sales, that is the best time to shop. This way, I get to buy the things I love
at cheaper rates.
Aunty Prudent Dami
I’ve got clear and measurable financial goals. For me, I see it as a game, so at the
end of every month, I must make more than I did in the last month. The more
money I make from my freelance work, the more I can live a CEO lifestyle.
Split The Bill Abraham
Before I got married, I used to hang out with my guys every Sunday and on public
holidays. That time, anyone could pay the bill. Now most of us are married but we
still enjoy hanging out occasionally, so if you see me post photos looking like
Odogwu spender, it is another boys’ night out where we pooled money together to
live our best life. Don’t bill me please, bills are not on me alone.
Save & Spend Ubong
It’s thanks to ALAT o, that’s how I am maintaining my lifestyle. I mean, I used to
spend money so much without keeping an account, but since the Spend & Save
feature came, there is this sense of comfort I feel knowing that every time I send
money or buy airtime or data, I have 5% of my money saved up for me. It’s almost
Like a reward to self for living soft.
It doesn’t matter what your earnings are or what generation you belong to, if you
cannot manage your finances, you will live an inflated lifestyle or suffer from the
bites of the high cost of living. We do not want Sapa to deal with you, so here is us
hoping you will take the steps to invest your money, save for rainy days and stick to
your budget so you enjoy life on a sofa floor.
