Wema Bank Plc has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by making a financial donation to the Lagos State Government in support of the victims affected by the recent pipeline explosion in the Abule Ado community of Lagos State. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ademola Adebise, accompanied by senior executive staff, personally presented the donation during a visit to the Lagos State Government House, Ikeja, on Friday, March 20, 2020.

Adebise expressed appreciation for the state government's swift response in providing relief for the victims of the tragic incident. He emphasized the importance of the bank contributing to the government's efforts, stating, “While our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, those who lost their lives, and those recuperating in the hospitals, we commiserate with them and have decided to contribute to the fund set up by the Lagos state government to help ameliorate the extent of damages caused by the explosion.”

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, acknowledged Wema Bank's donation and commended the institution for its passion for socially responsible gestures. Governor Sanwo-Olu also praised the bank's consistency in delivering digital-led solutions to individuals and businesses in the state.

It is noteworthy that Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier announced the establishment of a N2 billion Abule Ado/Soba Emergency Relief Fund for the victims of the explosion during a press briefing at the explosion site. He urged all Nigerians, including the private sector, to contribute to the fund, revealing that the state government had already made an initial donation of N250 million.

Wema Bank's contribution adds to the collective support aimed at alleviating the suffering of those affected by the Abule Ado pipeline explosion, reinforcing the collaborative efforts between the private sector and the Lagos State Government in times of crisis.
